On Friday 4. September 2015. panel multilingualism in education in the picture that showed the educational priorities of the Luxemburg EU presidency took place at Flanders representation office Vleva. Section for education of the Permanent Representation of Luxemburg to the EU are particularly engaged into supporting diversity and multilingualism in early childhood education. The overview was given by Mr. Jelle Reynaert, counsellor education and training at the General Representation of the Flemish Government at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the EU on the results of the Latvian presidency in terms of ways and means of ensuring that today's young people are equipped with the skills needed to meet the challenges of an increasingly digital economy and society . The importance of creativity and innovation in the learning process is an absolute necessity as well as the suitability of teachers and preparation of schools for the task. The example of a good practice of language education in Dutch was shown for instance in Suriname by Mrs. Mieke Smits (Dutch Language Union). SLO (national institute for curriculum development) supported Suriname to establish a new curriculum framework for the basic education cycle by providing teaching and learning materials and implementing activities including professional development and evaluative activities. There have also been great improvements in Flemish education and a lot of newly formed projects and initiatives in this field presented by Mrs. Sien Van den Hoof, policy officer Department of Education and Training of the Flemish administration for e.g. reception and education for non-Dutch speaking pupils who recently arrived in Belgium and their better integration in primary and secondary schools.
