EU Budget focused on results conference was held on 22 September in the European Comisson. EU financial resources nowadays are in scarcity and it is really important to get the most out of every euro. The EU budget amounts to around 1% of the EU's combined Gross Domestic Product (GDP) or up to 2% of the public spending of the 28 EU Member States. The main aim of 'EU Budget Focused on Results' initiative is the effective use of EU resources ( EU taxpayers' money ) – so that they are put to good use for the benefit of citizens and showing people the concrete benefits of the EU budget.
The EU budget funds projects, helps to achieve the 10 priorities of the Juncker Commission (Juncker was the most interesting speaker of the conference), resolves challenges the EU is currently facing ( primarily immigrant issues), helps regions, businesses, researchers, NGOs, students, it deals with food, infrastructure and environmental issues and charity.
The 'EU Budget Focused on Results' approach set out by Kristalina Georgieva, the Vice-President responsible for budget and human resources, is organised around four priority areas: how and where do we spend, how do we communicate and how are we assesed. The Commision, in accordance with Parliament and EU member states is working in this areas and is expected to have a concrete proposals in the first half of 2016. The conference will also be annual- based , this was only the first conference in a row, so that the outcomes can be properly valuated by audience and public.
